Nathaniel Brooks, undertaking a major renovation of his modern property on Hackwood Road in Basingstoke, desired a culinary space that doubled as an architectural centrepiece. He needed a highly reflective, dark surface to contrast sharply with his pale grey handleless cabinetry and large-format flooring. The focal point is undoubtedly the custom-designed, multi-level central island. Wrapped in Eternal Marquina quartz, this expansive T-shaped structure extends beautifully to provide a generous preparation zone and an integrated casual dining area. The stark white veins flow continuously across the deep black surface, illuminated brilliantly by the elegant contemporary pendant lights suspended above.

To unify the highly sophisticated aesthetic, the dramatic quartz runs seamlessly along the perimeter base units and forms a continuous, towering splashback within the cooking alcove. This dark, glossy stone adds incredible depth to the room, perfectly balancing the light walls and creating a truly immersive, contemporary British kitchen.
