Quartz Worktop Care & Maintenance Guide
Everyday Cleaning
Quartz worktops are designed to be low-maintenance and easy to care for. For everyday cleaning, simply wipe the surface with a soft cloth or sponge using warm water and a mild detergent if required.
Spillages from common household items such as tea, coffee, wine, fruit juice, cooking oils, sauces, and vinegar should be cleaned as soon as possible. Although quartz is highly resistant to staining, allowing liquids to dry on the surface can make them more difficult to remove.
After cleaning, rinse with clean water and dry the surface using a soft cloth or paper towel. For a streak-free finish, gently buff with a microfibre cloth.
Avoid using furniture polishes, waxes, or products designed to leave a surface coating, as these can create a residue and affect the appearance of the worktop.
Removing Dried Residue and Limescale
In hard water areas, limescale deposits may occasionally build up around sinks, taps, and splashbacks. To remove these marks, use a non-abrasive cleaner suitable for quartz surfaces and wipe gently with a soft sponge or cloth.
For dried food residue or stubborn marks, allow the cleaner to sit briefly before wiping away. Always rinse thoroughly with clean water afterwards and dry the area completely.
Never use metal scourers, steel wool, or abrasive cleaning pads, as these can dull the finish of the surface.
Avoiding Harsh Chemicals
Quartz worktops are highly durable but should not be exposed to strong chemicals for extended periods.
Avoid contact with:
- Paint strippers
- Oven cleaners
- Caustic soda
- Strong alkaline or acidic cleaners
- Solvents and industrial chemicals
- Bleach in high concentrations
If any of these substances come into contact with the worktop, wipe them away immediately, rinse thoroughly with water, and dry the surface.
Hair dyes, permanent markers, and certain highly pigmented products can also cause staining if left on the surface for prolonged periods, so prompt cleaning is recommended.
Heat Protection
Quartz surfaces offer good heat resistance but are not completely heat-proof.
Hot pans, baking trays, slow cookers, air fryer baskets, and other heated items should never be placed directly onto the worktop. Sudden or extreme temperature changes can cause thermal shock, potentially damaging the surface.
Always use a heat-resistant mat, trivet, or pan stand when placing hot cookware on your worktop.
Preventing Chips and Scratches
Quartz is extremely hard and durable, but no worktop material is completely immune to impact damage.
Avoid dropping heavy objects onto the surface, particularly around edges, corners, sink cut-outs, and hob cut-outs, where the material is most vulnerable.
Although quartz is scratch-resistant, it is not scratch-proof. Always use a chopping board when preparing food and avoid cutting directly on the surface.
Do not stand, sit, or place excessive weight on worktops, breakfast bars, or unsupported overhangs.
