Premium kitchen worktops are often defined by the smallest design decisions, and for Clara and Rowan Whitmore, it was the worktop that ultimately shaped how their Southampton kitchen came together. They were not looking for a full redesign. The cabinetry, layout, window placement, sink run, and island were already established. What they needed was a surface that could bring clarity, warmth, and a more refined finish to the existing space.

Soft grey shaker cabinets created a calm foundation, complemented by brushed metal handles and light, understated walls. While exploring different options for quartz worktops in Southampton, Clara and Rowan wanted a surface that would introduce warmth without disrupting the kitchen’s calm, contemporary aesthetic. Taj Mahal proved to be the perfect choice.

Its creamy background and soft, natural movement add subtle depth rather than dramatic contrast, bringing warmth, light, and a refined sense of balance across every work surface.

On the island, the quartz becomes the central feature. Its broad surface establishes a strong focal point, while the integrated gas hob sits seamlessly within the stone. A waterfall edge detail extends the material down the side, giving the island a sculptural, furniture-like presence.

Across the sink run and L-shaped layout, the same quartz continues with a consistent flow, supported by matching upstands that create a clean transition between surface and wall. The result is a continuous, well-resolved finish across the entire kitchen.

Beneath the window, the surface softly reflects natural light, brightening the sink area and enhancing the sense of openness. The warm tone of the quartz works in harmony with the cool grey cabinetry, balancing the palette in a way that feels calm and intentional.
